    Could not do without

Posted by Rodolfo Guglielmetti on 8th Mar 2022

I like to camp in the woods with my hammock all year round. In my Phoenix underquilt I have slept in snowy/icy mountain environment at -15°C like a baby in the cradle.
Would not trust any other like this.

    Consistent quality

Posted by Tom Bebee on 28th Sep 2021

I purchased this quilt in a 20F rating, because I already have a older premium Phoenix quilt in 40F, and have been super happy with the 40F. The new 20F performed outstanding on a recent section hike where the night time temps dipped into the 30's. Being almost exclusively a hammock camper, I own several other HG underquilts (different temp rated Incubators). In winter I carry a Phoenix and Incubator (doubling them up) and have been warm down into the single digits easily. If you don't mind a few more ounces and maybe a little more bulk, the Economy quilts are a way to save an little money and not sacrifice quality or performance.

Love it! Fabric is soft, super light, easy to attach to suspension system and compresses down nicely in pack. Would recommend

    3/4 length

Posted by Corey on 2nd Oct 2020

I got the 3/4 length 30 degree with an ounce of overfill. Used it out on a 25 mile AT section one night got down to 37 and I stayed warm worked perfectly. I used a cut down section of a foam pad under my feet and that worked out. I tried my buddies full length HG quilt a few trips ago so between the 2 I would probably get that the full length of I did it over but that is just me you still cannot go wrong with the 3/4 length. Happy trails!

    Great piece of gear

Posted by AJ on 11th Sep 2020

Like most hammockers, I started with a pad in my hammock and quickly realized its limitations. This is my first underquilt and I could not be happier. Its super easy to set up, perfectly stitched, and very lofty. The best part is that the weight is within an ounce of my NeoAir X-Lite long/wide. I am 6 ft. 3 in. so I was a bit worried about the length of the Phoenix, but it comfortably hugs my shoulders and extends to mid-calf. Combined with the sit-pad/back panel from my Gossamer Gear pack, its the perfect light-weight bottom insulation setup. Highly recommended!

    Great 3/4 Length Underquilt

Posted by Colin Runnion on 8th Jul 2020

Took this underquilt to Nantahala National Forest for 25mi of backpacking, where it reached 60F at night - I was never cold. This is my first hammocking backpacking trip, and with this underquilt being my first as well, I can say that it was easy to setup and felt great asymmetrically laying. It also stormed while on the trip at night, with high winds and torrential downpour for three hours, while it did get slightly wet, it never stopped keeping me warm.

I am glad I got the Phoenix, plenty long enough, super light and warm. Fits my hammock like a glove and stays in place. Glad I made the investment.

    Cozily Light

Posted by H Ngo on 19th Feb 2020

Replacing an identical 30F 3/4th length UQ that was lost during a bike trip....

However, this time around, for some reasons, the new UQ is longer (maybe by a couple inches), which is a bonus, not that I need it due to my petite size. In fact, I have used this 3/4 size UQ to regularly nap with my two nephews (4 and 2), and all three of us get ourselves cozy up rapidly, sleeping in our backyard during the winter time in our hammock. The boys can nap up to 3 hrs if undisturbed!!

As a petite (5 ft.) and side-fetus-position sleeper, being minimalist is a huge advantage because I adore the use this UQ as a blanket to go to ground during camping trips. The feather light (under 1 lb) and compactness are both convenient and a blessing to all my solo backpacking and bike packing trips.

One thing though, there is a little odd duck smell to this new quilt that I did not get with the old one that I cannot seem to air out, but I guess as long as I do not put it up to my nose and get high, I think I will be fine. After all, its an Underquilt. The funny smell would only be affected when I stuff it in the same sack as my top quilt.

Also, I requested to add an extra ounce of overfill for the new one, and the loft and warmth could be felt immediately. Worth the extra$!!

One thing for sure, I always get a little giddy up every time I get Hammock Gear crosses my mind due to their quality products and friendly approach to their transactions. Will look forward to purchase more from HG when my urges arise.

A must have for hammock sleeping!

Posted by Sam on 26th Sep 2019

I was skeptical about getting an under quilt for my hammock because I always thought they were similar to a sleeping bag or to be used with a sleeping bag for very cold weather camping. Boy was I wrong!

I only slept in a hammock a couple of times before first trying Hammock Gear's under quilt and I am so glad I tried it out! I'm 6 ft and the 3/4 length Economy Phoenix plus a down jacket at my feet kept me warm and cozy all trough the night.

I used this and the HG Economy Burrow top quilt during a 6 day backpacking trip in Glacier National Park, and I almost never needed to use the top quilt since the under quilt was doing such a good job at keeping me warm!

If you are on the fence on getting one, don't hesitate, your butt will thank you!

    Underquilt

Posted by Gabriel on 6th Sep 2019

I’m 5’6” and this underquilt almost covers my entire body! I’m a cold sleeper and this 20degree quilt was perfect for me in the high Sierra mountains with weather getting down to 40degrees. Great quality, great loft, and loved the way you can adjust this quilt.
