    UNDERQUILT PROTECTOR

Posted by Doug Endsley on 23rd Mar 2022

Delivered just in time for a snowy wet trip which protected my under quilt from the slop! Gave me a few degrees more insulation while hanging in a 15 degree sleet/snowstorm. Stitching and material were great. It adjusted to fit my setup perfectly. The crew at Hammock Gear shipped it ahead of time when I emailed I had a trip scheduled a week out and the weather was looking cold and wet. Glad they went the extra mile to get it to me before my trip. Quality product and customer service!!!!
    Thanks Hammock Gear

Well Made, Does the Job, No Complaints

Posted by Kim on 13th Dec 2021

I bought this some time last year, and I'm really glad I did. It's come in handy for several reasons. First, I have a wonderful HG underquilt that I'm using with a hammock by another maker that has a bugnet that attaches to the hammock. This makes it a challenge to attach the UQ to the hammock. I've come up with a system that works pretty well -- my next hammock will come from Hammock Gear! -- but it helps to have the underquilt protector attached. That helps keep the UQ snugged up to the hammock.
Second, I like to stealth camp, so pretty much everything I own is a color that does not stand out. That's great for 'disappearing' in the woods, but in a search & rescue situation, I need something that catches the eye. Thus, I opted for the orange UQ protector. It's a subdued burnt orange, but it's still far brighter than anything else I own.
Third, I've only had to rely on its intended purpose once. Camp was already set up. It started raining at about 8 p.m. My campsite was less than half a mile from where my ride was picking me up the next day, so I had a very leisurely morning planned. The evening's rain turned into the downpour the forecast predicted. I had my pack under my hammock. It didn't get rained on from above, but the splatter from the ground meant everything - including the hat sitting on my pack - was wet and covered with bits of forest floor. I spent a leisurely morning lazing in my dry down cocoon. Despite how wet everything else was, the UQ protector did its job & my UQ was clean and dry.

I'd buy this again, and I highly recommend it. I even carry it on trips where rain is unlikely because of its other uses.

Keeps my wet dog off my UQ

Posted by Jeff Carr on 7th Dec 2021

I picked up the lighter version of this underquilt protector to not only keep my UQ dry on rainy nights, but to also keep my dog from rubbing all over my underquilt on just about any camp with him. This is super light and packs down to nothing. Worth any additional weight increase on potentially wet out-tings.

    Definitely worth its weight!

Posted by Matt on 28th Jan 2021

I am new to hammock camping, and I bought 15 degree and 40 degree under quilts. On a recent trip the temperature and night dropped to 10 degrees, and I was able to try out my new protector. The wind was about 20 mph and it was really blowing my tarp around and pressing it up against me. At times it even rocked my hammock! Even with the low temperature and high winds, I stayed warm and cozy all night. I was really impressed with how it was able to seal out drafts and block the wind.

    This is a game changer!

Posted by Roxanne on 18th Dec 2020

Even if it was just a bit humid out, I was finding that my down UQ was getting damp and was not keeping me quite as warm at night. I got this UQ protector and man, what a great purchase! It weighs almost nothing and packs down super small. VERY easy to set up and pairs seamlessly with my HG UQ. My UQ stayed dry throughout a recent damp and cold night in the woods and I swear that I was toastier using this thing than I would have been with just my naked UQ. This is going with me on all campouts from now on!

    UQ Protector

Wonderfully made but not very water repellent and does not block much additional wind. Overall a good addition to my quilt and I recommend it if you have one of HG under quilts.

    UQ protector

Posted by Curtis Clark on 25th Sep 2020

The main item is great! I take off because the “small stuff sack” is merely the small bags intended for the HG quilts. If you are expecting a stuff sack to fit the UQ protector do not buy —its way too big.

    Underquilt protector

Posted by Barry Conant on 11th Aug 2020

Due to the warm temps and high humidity, my underquilt was getting damp. Constantly having to let air out to dry. By using the underquilt protector, problem solved! Easy to put on and very lightweight. Also adds extra 10 degrees to my low temperature rating. It really is a must have when dealing with inclement weather conditions when backpacking. Thanks for another great product.

The worlds of hammocks just keeps getting better.

Posted by Stephen Skinner on 1st Aug 2020

Years ago I began making and selling these covers. We seemed to all be making at least some of our gear. For times when the weather is too warm for an Underquilt, or too cold for JUST an underquilt this is perhaps the answer for us. I know it is for me. This thing is much lighter than the ones I made, cheaper and better quality. I’m really glad I bought this.

    Underquilt protector

Great quality product, covers my quilt perfectly. My only complaint is it did not have a card to tell me which end was which. i have a Hammock Gear underquilt so it was not a problem for me but could be for someone who did not. Thanks guys for a great product!
