The Burrow Top Quilt: Ultralight Down Warmth, Your Way

The Burrow top quilt is an ultralight down quilt built for serious comfort. It insulates your top and sides, while skipping the wasted insulation beneath you. As a result, you carry less weight and stay just as warm. It works in a hammock or on the ground, so one quilt covers every trip. Filled with ethically sourced 850-fill-power down, the Burrow top quilt punches well above its weight. In addition, you can tune nearly every detail to your own sleep system.

What Makes a Top Quilt Different

A top quilt is like a sleeping bag without the back. Therefore, it removes the crushed, useless insulation under your body. That down does nothing when you lie on it anyway. Instead, you rely on your pad or underquilt below. Meanwhile, the quilt drapes over you for full warmth on top. So you save weight without giving up comfort.

Premium 850-Fill Down and Light Fabric

The Burrow top quilt uses ethically sourced 850-fill-power down for a high warmth-to-weight ratio. Its shell comes in 10-denier or 20-denier ripstop nylon. In addition, a DWR coating helps the fabric shed moisture. Vertical baffles run along the body to keep down evenly spread. At the head, a horizontal chamber blocks drafts where you need it most. Because of this design, warmth stays put all night long.

Customize Your Burrow Top Quilt

Every Burrow top quilt is made to order around your needs. First, pick a temperature rating from 40°F all the way to 0°F. Then, choose your width, with the standard cut suited to most hammock users. You can also select a length and a sewn or zippered footbox. For extra warmth, add a draft collar, overfill, or a ground pad attachment kit. As a result, the quilt fits your body and your conditions exactly.

Equally at Home in a Hammock or on the Ground

This down top quilt is just as comfortable in a hammock as on the ground. For ground sleepers, the wide 60-inch version adds welcome coverage. Pair it with the Incubator for a complete hammock setup. Alternatively, use it with a sleeping pad on the ground. Of course, it shines under a roomy tarp on stormy nights. Either way, you stay warm wherever you decide to sleep.

Pack Down the Burrow Top Quilt and Go

When packed, the Burrow top quilt compresses down small. For example, a 40°F rating stuffs to roughly 4.5 liters. A warmer 20°F version packs to about 8.5 liters. Therefore, it slips easily into any backpacking kit. The Burrow is also proudly made in the USA. Finally, follow Leave No Trace principles and read REI on quilts versus sleeping bags.

First weekend I bought this top quilt, I went into 18 degree evening and used my 20 degree Incubator in conjunction with this Burrow. It was the warmest most amazing experience once you know the comfort capabilities of this equipment! Absolutely impressed and will be buying many more for my family! A+

I bought the 10-degree burrow, I've used it down to 20 degrees so far and I was so hot I had to open the whole quilt up. They are very honest about the temperature rating and I would be comfortable taking this quilt well below 20 degrees. I am going to use this quilt through the summer in the ADKs, I am hoping I won't be too hot using it completely open, as a blanket. I recommend this quilt to all my friends, I can't get a better quilt for the price.

I have only used the new Burrow once so far. It was 24F overnight with ice on my rainfly but I was very warm. See you at HangCon. Thanks! Daniel Tharp @HammockMountain

Second trip with this bomber quilt was to the Alps. Temps ranged from mid 30's to mid 40's at night. Warm and toasty with just baselayers, fleece beanie and wool socks on Xlite NXT. Still havent pushed the quilt to 30* or possibly lower, but dont think it will be an issue.

This was my first backing quilt and Ill never go back to a sleeping bag. Hammock Gear was able to expedite my order so I could get it before an upcoming trip. The quality is amazing! I cant believe how much I slept in my quilt as opposed to my mummy bag. Now my son wants to upgrade to a quilt as well.

These guys deliver the sane quality of product at a much better price than many/all of their competitors in the quilt space. The entire process was smooth, from order, to production communication updates and final delivery. I've got both a 20 and 0 degree quilts, which i use for both backpacking and in my rooftop tent. Excellent job!

I am very pleased with my purchase of a 40° Burrow top quilt and 40° Phoenix under quilt. The quilts are very good quality at a very good price (especially for down!). It's my second set of quilts from Hammock Gear. My first set was 20° quilts, so I needed a set that I can use in late spring thru early fall. I like the fact that I could choose different colors so that I can easily tell my 20° quilts apart from my 40° quilts.

I recently purchased a Burrow over quilt as well as an Incubator underquilt from Hammock Gear.

Their customer service and communication was impressive. The quality of the finished product was absolutely top notch. I highly recommend them to folks in need of quality camping/hiking gear.

Honestly, I couldn’t believe the price of the Burrow when I was looking at lightweight sleeping systems for my AZT thruhike. I absolutely love my bag, so much so that I sleep in it most nights even at home. It’s warm and comfortable and I really couldn’t ask for anything more. Pretty durable too considering I have cats that also love it and it’s still in perfect condition. So excited to use this bag for years to come.

  3. PM

Outstanding service and customer support. I had a new person added to my party within 10 days from the trip. Hammock Gear was able to make and ship the quilt and it arrived with two days spare. The product, service and support are all great. I’d give six stars if I could!

  4. YI

I just used this on a 5-night trip through the Winds. Overnight lows were around 40, and I was extremely comfortable (if anything, too warm!). Already looking forward to taking this quilt out again.

  5. EC

I just got back from a two week trip sleeping under the Burrow. It kept me toasty when temperatures dropped colder than anticipated, and on hot nights I could just stick my hands and feet out to cool down. I slept much better than I ever did with a sleeping bag! I slept on the ground, and the wide version is definitely the way to go for that.
