Down under quilts have proven to be, without question, the preferred choice for insulating the underside of the hammock. Due to the weight, compressibility and versatility, they outshine the alternatives by a landslide. Their thermal efficiency has allowed brave campers to push the boundaries of cold weather hammocking. Virtually every hammock camper has experienced - through his or her learning curve, the dreaded CBS, or "Cold Butt Syndrome". And virtually every owner of an under quilt has effectively learned how to avoid it. Once you have experienced a down under quilt, you will "never go back".

Hammock Gear provides a full-length under quilt - the Incubator Econ, and a 3/4-length under quilt - the Phoenix Econ. They are known by many to be the most effective on the market today. One of the primary reasons is this: the Economy Incubator and Economy Phoenix are the only commercial under quilts designed with a contour which mimics the shape a person makes when they are laying in a hammock. One of the added benefits of this construction technique is that it leaves a "flap" of fabric along the top and bottom of every down filled chamber. This extra fabric acts as a "floating baffle" which stabilizes the down and helps prevent its shifting. Another reason our UQ's are popular is this: they contain the ideal amount of down stability - the down stays put when it should, but the design allows for enough manual shifting of down when necessary.

This quilt will ship approximately 9 weeks after an order is placed.

All of our quilts ship with a 24" x 36" Storage Sack and Stuff Sack for backpacking.

About the Economy Incubator

The ULTIMATE underquilt for guaranteed comfort at a low price... The Standard length Economy Incubator is long enough to generously cover most hammock campers up to about 6’ 1”.  Our Economy Incubator series utilizes downproof 1.1 oz / yd² (20D) Calendared Nylon Taffeta fabric and 800 fill power DWR Treated Grey Duck Down. This underquilt will protect you in temperatures down to its temperature rating. If you are looking for an underquilt that is hassle free and will allow you to enjoy your hammock for more months of the year, you have found it.

The Economy Incubator comes with 9 anatomically contoured, differential cut baffles that run the length of the quilt. One of the things this construction technique does is to greatly reduce the shifting of down that is sometimes more noticeable in quilts made with premium down.  This is one of the reasons Hammock Gear quilts are always 15-20% overstuffed. The differential cut, contoured baffles also provide the highest level of fit which is critical to keeping warm. The Economy Incubator comes complete with our state of the art shock-cord suspension system, featuring color coded s-biners that help you to easily orient the head and foot end of the underquilt for a quick and effortless set-up. All of our quilts are shipped with a complimentary cotton storage sack, and a nylon stuff sack!

Duck Down

Hammock Gear is committed to providing down products that meet RDS (Responsible Down Standard).  RDS certifies that geese and ducks are treated ethically (no live plucking or force feeding) and the down is traceable back to the source.  Both our Premium and Economy quilts use down that meets the Responsible Down Standard. Looks Good

Posted by Jason Ryan on 2nd Jul 2020

I received the under quilt and after inspection it meets all my requirements. It's light weight, compresses into a small package and seems to be very well made. Unfortunately due to COVID I didn't receive it until the end of June and it's rated for 20 degrees. Looks like I'll have to wait a few more months until I'm able to put it to use.

    ECONOMY INCUBATOR CUSTOM

Posted by Mick on 5th Jun 2020

Received this and put it on according to the directions (no brainer). Fit my hammock great 11'. Had a night where the rain had quit and I hung it up, laid in it for a few minutes and actually fell asleep until one of my kids woke me up. Went back that night and planned to stay for the night. Best night sleep I've had for a while. This was so much more comfortable than a pad, not even close. HG was amazing to work with and had delivered above and beyond my expectations. Don't debate any longer, buy this product and love your hammock even more.

    Why Did I Wait?

Posted by Patrick on 22nd May 2020

I've been hammocking since at least 2014 and have been sleeping on an insulated inflatable pad the majority of the time. Knowing the excellence of the 20 degree Burrow I purchased a few years ago, I decided to buy the Incubator in 30 degreee. I asked HG if they would ship it before my upcoming trip and they made it happen Thank you. Anyway, my compadre and i hit the trail and within five minutes we hit snow, packed about 3 ft but not everywhere. After hiking for a bit, we found a lakeside camp with some snow patches around us which was good because we each brought in full beers and brought out beer cans. Night came around and it was off to bed (hammock). I was so comfy and cozy in there thanks to the under and top quilt from HG. I slept so much better than with a pad, I don't know why I waited so long. The quilts from HG are amazing. They have plenty of loft, feel great and the underquilt has all the right cords to customize a great fit. There are other sellers out there, some cheaper and you know why, and others that cost more but I feel don't seem to offer more. Get it and you won't regret it.

    Incubator

Love the adjustability of the incubator. Easy to set up and use. I purchased a second so that I have all my hangs covered one zero degree and one forty degree. Would highly recommend

    kept me warm and toasty

Posted by Wayne on 8th Mar 2020

With some gale force winds popping up unexpectedly on my first trip with an under quilt this performed fantastically. I was warm and toasty and would have had a great night's sleep if not for the wind whipping past my rain fly.
My only complaint was the quilt would slip one way or the other and sometimes expose a foot or a leg. I couldn't seem to find a comfortable position for sleeping that kept all of me inside the envelope. Maybe I didn't adjust it correctly. I'll have to experiment a bit more.
Very satisfied with the product and the price.

    Econnomy Incubator 20/Burrow 40

Posted by Gregory Jobes on 7th Mar 2020

Purchased a 20° Economy Incubator and a 40° Economy Burrow 40° for use with my WB Eldorado in Vermont. Tested them out the other night down to 19°F, stayed perfectly warm through the night. Impressed with the performance, the 40° Burrow performed well past it's range for me. I setup right next to a lake, and the wind was really going, had to get up in my long-johns and re-stake my tarp after it was ripped out. They also are nice and light and pack nice and small.

    Highly Reccomended

Posted by Sam on 5th Mar 2020

I purchased the 20 degree Economy Incubator and tested it out last weekend where temps dropped slightly below the rating. I was comfortable and warm all night and even had to remove a jacket I put on as a precaution. I would absolutely purchase again. Thanks!
