The Hearth Underquilt: Simple, Full-Length Hammock Warmth

The Hearth underquilt is a simple, full-length down underquilt for hammock campers. It hangs beneath your hammock to insulate the side a top quilt cannot reach. After all, the insulation under your body gets crushed flat and stops working. Instead, the Hearth wraps lofted warmth around you from below. It runs end to end, so no cold spots sneak in at your feet or shoulders. As a result, you get reliable warmth at one of the best prices around.

Why a Rectangular Underquilt?

Most underquilts taper to save weight, but that adds fitting fuss. The Hearth underquilt keeps a simple rectangular shape at 40 inches wide. Because of this, it fits gathered-end and bridge-style hammocks alike. Therefore, setup stays quick and the coverage stays even. Meanwhile, you spend less time adjusting and more time resting. So this design is ideal if you value simplicity over grams.

Dial In Your Fit and Warmth

The Hearth underquilt rides on adjustable shock cord suspension, primary and secondary. As a result, you can tune the fit to your exact lay. You can even adjust it asymmetrically to match how you lie. In addition, draft collars at both ends seal in heat or vent it. Therefore, you stay comfortable as the night gets colder.

Premium 850-Fill Down

Every Hearth is filled with ethically sourced 850-fill-power down. As a result, it delivers a lot of warmth for very little weight. Choose a 7-, 10-, or 20-denier shell to match your trip. A DWR-coated, down-proof fabric also keeps moisture and stray feathers in check. This ultralight underquilt then packs serious warmth into a tiny space.

Customize the Hearth Underquilt

Every Hearth underquilt is made to order around your trip. First, pick a temperature rating from a mild 50°F to a frosty 0°F. Then, choose a length, or add an extra baffle of width for more room. For colder hangs, you can add down overfill for a warmth boost. You can also pair it with the Circadian Pro hammock and the Burrow top quilt. As a result, your whole sleep system works together.

Pack the Hearth Underquilt and Go

When it is time to move, the Hearth underquilt compresses down small. For example, a 40°F model stuffs to roughly 4.5 liters. A warmer 20°F version packs to about 8.5 liters. It even ships with a cotton storage bag and a hiking stuff sack. The Hearth is also proudly made in the USA. Finally, follow Leave No Trace principles and read REI on down fill power first.

Great loft for a 30°. Very light. Nice material. Vertical baffles allow easy adjustment of down. Four or five shakes in either direction and you're golden. Nice. Super warm in the 55+ temps so far. Definitely order the extra baffle. Used it as a top quilt also, a nice long blanket. I'm 6'0"@245lbs. Would prefer two more baffles, which would mean three extra over stock. It does work with one extra baffle tho. A nice product.

Superior construction and materials, so much warmth in such little weight! I ordered a 20F Hearth and love it. Perfect size while attached and while packed. I also grabbed the UQ Protector which is also such a great addition to my setup. Thanks to everyone at HG for some great products, cant wait to keep my butt warm all over Michigans Upper Peninsula 😁

Snug as a bug in a rug. Very happy with my purchase and will definitely be recommending to other hammock campers.

Finally took the plunge and bought an under quilt. Game changer, never going back to a pad (even with my Hennessy). Once I dialed-in the suspension, I really appreciated the black and white caribiners (white for right).

Cant wait to get over the back surgery and back out into the woods with all my new Hammock Gear products. Slowly upgrading all my hammock stuff to HG. Thanks for high quality products

  1. PS

Beautiful quilt, kept me warm at night and Hammock Gear’s excellent customer service got it to me in time for my trip. A+.

  2. AZ

I chose the 50 degree hearth under quilt to use in those warmer summer nights and it works perfectly. Could probably stack it on another under quilt in the winter for extra warmth.

  3. MK
Exceptional customer service and great product

30 degree rated under quilt kept me nice and warm down to 27 degrees (paired with 25 deg top quilt). Lightweight and great construction. I reached out to customer service to let them know i needed it for an upcoming trip and they promptly responded and made sure i got my product in time!

    Keeps You Warm

Very high-quality material. Kept me warm on a canoeing trip with nights in the 30s. Great customer service exchange to make sure I received the quilt by my deadline. Only complaint was the quality of the S-clips that came with. Would recommend bringing another carabiner as back up, we broke one on the first trial run.
