The Journey Tarp: Full-Coverage Doors, Ultralight Protection

The Journey is a Silpoly tarp with doors built to handle wind and rain at minimal weight. It uses silicone-impregnated ripstop polyester that sheds water and refuses to stretch when wet. As a result, your pitch stays drum-tight even through a long downpour. The full-coverage doors seal you in for warmth and privacy, or open wide for a view. For backpackers and hammock campers alike, this Silpoly tarp with doors covers nearly any condition. Plus, it packs small and pitches fast wherever you go.

A Storm-Ready Hammock Shelter

Designed for hammock camping and ground setups, the Journey Tarp adapts to how you sleep. Pitch it high and open on calm nights, or batten down the doors when weather rolls in. Because the doors wrap each end, this Silpoly tarp with doors channels gusts around the shelter. So you stay dry without carrying a heavy four-season tent.

Zero-Stretch Silpoly Tarp Fabric

At the core of this Silpoly tarp is a 20-denier sil-poly fabric prized for staying taut in the rain. Unlike nylon, it barely absorbs water, so it will not sag overnight. Therefore, your shelter holds its shape from dusk to dawn. In addition, reinforced panels and grosgrain webbing back every tie-out for durability. For added floor protection on wet ground, pair it with a Dyneema ground cloth.

Full-Coverage Doors and Strong Tie-Outs

The doors are what set this Silpoly tarp with doors apart from a basic hex. Together with four panel pull-outs, they let you seal out weather or vent on warm nights. Beastee D-rings at the ridgeline and perimeter give you strong, versatile rigging points. After a trip, pack the whole shelter down fast in a mesh storage sleeve.

Fast, Stable Setup in Any Terrain

Setup stays quick because the Journey Tarp pitches predictably from its ridgeline. First, clip or tie the ridgeline, then stake the corners and adjust. The taut Silpoly tarp resists wind-driven flap all night long. To anchor it firmly on any surface, stake it out with a set of aluminum Y stakes.

Customize Your Journey Tarp

Build the Journey around your trips by choosing your color, ridgeline length, and guy-out hardware. You can also add the Journey Accessory Kit for a complete, ready-to-pitch setup. Because every tarp ships with a seam-sealing kit, you can lock in full waterproofing yourself. Wherever you pitch this Silpoly tarp with doors, follow Leave No Trace principles to protect the land.

Have used this a couple times already and its a fantastic tarp loads of room, absolutely get the poles for the pull outs as they make the inside cavernous. Add the fantastic service from Adam and its a double winner. So much so two of my friends have bought the same tarp from Hammock Gear. In fact you can see his review below!

  1. AZ

I bought the Journey to use in the winter since it has doors and would trap some heat inside. I had to test out the proper hang to close the doors because there were no videos online of people showing their hangs and this is my first tarp with doors and pole mods. Once I tweaked it enough and the doors were closed, I immediately felt the temp rising inside the tarp and had to crawl out. I was very surprised and happy that it really does trap warmth inside with the doors closed. I look forward to using the Journey this coming winter season along with my zero degree underquilt.

This is my first real tarp, and it’s everything I hoped for. I have a couple of HG quitls, a hammock, and now this. The quality is top notch and Adam is awesome!

    Best new hammock tarp

I just finished seem sealing and testing this tarp in a downpour and it kept me completely dry! I really appreciate how lightweight the tarp is for its size. So much better than my nylon tarp.

    Quality

Build quality is superb! I haven’t had a chance to take it on a trip yet, but I have set it up, it is seam sealed and ready to go! It even arrived earlier than expected. Great company to work with.

  5. JM

I upgraded from a 13×10 SilNylon tarp, which I thought at the time was a good tarp, until I received the Journey. The OD green is like a Ranger green, blends very well with the environment. The doors are great – The tarp sleeve made the deployment and pack-up a breeze. I bought the extra 150ft cordage, cut up (15) 10ft sections with a loop, attached to all tie out points and it all quickly packs in the tarp sleeve. The seam sealer was a breeze to apply, I did 2 coats just to be sure. Did I mention its very lightweight? Happy, dry camper!
